Institute of Chaplaincy

The Chaplaincy Degree programs provide students with the skill set and knowledge to serve as a chaplain to individuals seeking religious guidance and faith instruction.  A chaplain serves as a companion upon one’s path, a guide in the midst of a storm, a fellow traveler, and a person who listens.  They help to find spiritual outcomes by providing interventions for humans with spiritual and theological needs.  They work in places of pain and storm, where suffering is often the constant.  Some of those humans that they assist might be:  homeless, inmates, prisoners, poor, suffering, patients, residents, alcoholics, drug addicts, prostitutes, refugees, the down trodden, the disenfranchised, and the hopeless.  This series of degrees helps people to develop skills in this very specialized area of helping people.
The A.Th. CHAP program is focused on an interfaith, interdenominational, inter-spiritual, intercommunity, interreligious, dialogical approach to Chaplaincy, providing a pathway for personal and inter-spiritual growth.  Students study religious and faith culture, theology, psychology and ethics through an inclusive and progressive spiritual lens. He or she will develop knowledge, skills and a multicultural understanding of individuals who are traveling a spiritual path, as well as finding meaning in worship, fellowship, and personal spiritual enrichment through study and partnership with fellow students.  Along the way there will be a great amount of self-discovery.
